Job Description

Reporting to the Network Management Director (NM) within the Technical Direction Group (TDG), this position was created to provide support and expert assistance for Underground Asset Management Software & GIS at VWNA facilities.

For our Water and Waste Water Networks, the individual in this position will:

-           Propose and support the UGAM software & GIS  strategy and initiatives,

-           Assist & support the implementation, migration, deployment of INFONET,

-           Support our operators in existing UGAM software & GIS,

-           Propose & support in the appropriate UGAM & GIS database structures

-           Establish proper training documentation.

-           Evaluate and Plan the different training needs depending on the site.

-           Establish the Training courses with our Training Department.

This person will direct and coordinate UGAM software & GIS migrations, investigations and troubleshoot problems to standardize as well as possible the UGAM data collection and reporting.  To do so He will liaise with the IT department, the users (mainly the CPM Dept and the OPS Dept) and the software vendors as needed.


The UGAM software & GIS expert will take the lead with the development, implementation, and monitoring of continuous improvement action plans involving UGAM software & GIS…


As a UGAM software & GIS expert, this individual will be required to travel throughout North America and may need to travel outside North America (i.e. Europe) periodically.


Primary Responsibilities/Job Duties

  • Plans, designs, implements and trains on Veolia’s UGAM software & GIS  methodology (Infonet).
  • Establishing proper documentations. Does so in compliance with the VW worldwide TD policies and methodologies.
  • Provide expertise in the UGAM software & GIS analysis and related activities including the migration, installation, interface with other Operational software.
  • Be involved in the purchasing and updating of the Veolia’s UGAM software & GIS.
  • Provide innovative conceptual ideas for increasing Veolia’s offers in the domain of UGAM software & GIS reporting.
  • Work in close collaboration with CPM department in charge of providing Capital Program Priority List.
  • Communicate ideas and scientific principles to the client, and business colleagues.
  • Use a personal computer to compile information in databases, spreadsheets, word processing software, and access information from the Internet.
  • Interface with VWNA IT Dept and UGAM software & GIS vendors in order to serve as point contact for IT issues.
  • Conduct an ongoing review of operating performance reports in order to make periodic recommendations regarding UGAM software & GIS using and deploying.
  • Develop and lead the execution of corrective action plans.
  • Lead internal, inquiry or investigative meetings on UGAM software & GIS problems and new technical initiatives.
  • Track all deviations from baseline KPIs and recommend corrective actions.
  • Respond to common inquiries from customers, clients or business colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

Educational Background
Graduate of a recognized college of science or engineering

Job Skills/Characteristics

  • Experience with UGAM software & GIS in drinking water distribution system.
  • Experience with UGAM software & GIS in collection networks.
  • Experience in Project management for deployment, migration, data transfer, and interfacing on UGAM software & GIS
  • Strong knowledge of INFONET.
  • Knowledge of ICOMMM.
  • Strong knowledge of UGAM software & GIS implementation
  • Ability to read and understand IT manuals and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with providing diagnostic evaluations of deficient software.
  • Ability to research, read and interpret UGAM & GIS technical data, make logical analyses, and prepare appropriate written and oral reports
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and scientific principles to others in the company
  • Ability to use a personal computer and be familiar with software for databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and accessing information from the Internet
  • Ability to transfer his knowledge to operators through trainings and on-site missions
  • Experience in water and wastewater UGAM & GIS requirements is highly preferred
  • Understanding of the economic and engineering principles involved in water and wastewater UGAM operations and an appreciation of operating efficiency
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of practical problems and to derive practical methodologies to be applied on site.
  • Ability to understand nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.)
  • Sound judgment to properly weigh the relative importance of the various problems involved in the work
  • Assist technical managers with UGAM software & GIS questions when required
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily
  • Ability to complete a physical fit test to wear a respirator and any required safety equipment necessary to perform these duties
  • Demonstrate the appreciation of the confidential nature of company information and to treat it accordingly
  • Requires a wide range of independent action and decision making
  • Ability to document job activities in written reports
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with company Health & Safety policies
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Experience Knowledge

  • Over five (10) years of relevant experience in UGAM software, GIS
  • Experience in water resources, water or wastewater treatment is highly preferable.
  • Experience in hydraulic modeling would be a plus.
