Under limited supervision, be the lead operator responsible for the operation and maintenance of the pre-treatment plant, and perform related duties and responsibilities to ensure plant facilities and equipment are operated and maintained to meet the goals of all regulatory agencies, process directives and client expectations. Demonstrate a complete understanding of skills necessary to operate equipment and lead the process team to meet the defined goals. The position requires the candidate to obtain a Class II Industrial Wastewater Certification from CWEA within the first year of employment.
Education and Experience
- High School education or equivalent with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have the ability to perform basic math equations. Associate’s degree in a science or technical area strongly preferred.
- Over five years experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of water/wastewater treatment. Regulatory Knowledge (RCRA, CERCLA), and knowledge of Title V – NESHAPS.
- Act as a leadworker directing other plant personnel in various duties
- Operate pumps, valves, and other equipment to direct or regulate the flow of wastewater
- Operate, adjust, and maintain chemical feed equipment
- Perform various recordkeeping and prepare special reports as required
- Inspect and maintain plant equipment
- Follow safe work methods and safety precautions related to work
- Maintain buildings and grounds
- Provide training to other operators
- Serves as the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor in his/her absence
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance duties
- Record plant operational data and maintain operations logs
- Supervise sample collection
- Operate plant equipment and processes to ensure reliability, economy and compliance with all effluent requirements
- Implement operational changes as deemed necessary and report changes and justifications to supervisor. Evaluates equipment status and performance and originates work orders for non-routine maintenance.

- Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
- Must be able to serve rotational 24 hour emergency on-call if required by site.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
