Job Description

Veolia Water North America, the worldwide leader in water/wastewater treatment services, is looking for a Director of Human Resources for our Industrial Businesses location in Houston, TX.      

 

This newly created position will be based in Houston, TX with responsibility for leading the HR function across all of the industrial businesses in the US.  Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources at the North American Headquarters in Chicago, IL, the HR Director will manage one professional and leverage resources from corporate HR specialists to develop and implement programs to support HR strategies and business objectives across multiple locations with approximately 500 employees.  Specific areas of responsibility include:

 

HR Organization – Develop HR programs that are proactive, accessible and responsive to all levels of the organization.  Clarify and communicate expectations; provide ongoing coaching and feedback; manage the HR budget, goals and objectives.

 

Employee/Labor RelationsProvide effective counseling and advice to assist managers and supervisors with conflict resolution.  Proactively identify problems and solutions, assess and analyze trends and develop recommendations.  Support positive labor relations activities including due diligence, contract negotiations, grievance and arbitration, and union avoidance efforts.

 

Talent Acquisition – Ensure procedures are followed to recruit and hire qualified employees at all levels within the organization.  Develop and promote an environment of diversity with cost effective recruiting strategies, consistent pre-employment requirements, an effective New Hire/Onboarding Process, and ongoing process improvements to improve hiring manager/new employee satisfaction.

 

Compliance, Policy Administration/Process Improvement – Administer HR policies and procedures to ensure consistency, fairness and legal compliance.  Keep abreast of all federal and state requirements and audit employee records as necessary. Continuously update and recommend improvements for operational efficiencies and effectiveness.

 

Training, Development and Performance Management – Coordinate training programs and identify opportunities for employee development. Oversee the succession planning process and implement performance management program.

 

Compensation - Administer compensation programs and guidelines; ensure implementation and communication of base and variable (commission, management incentive, discretionary) plans that support organizational goals/objectives.

 

Employee Communication & Engagement – Integrate ongoing business knowledge with required HR support to meet business and company goals.  Participate and visit site/customer locations; assist in communicating business priorities and objectives throughout the company; assess and measure employee engagement and identify opportunities for improvement.

Education and Experience

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with at least 10 years of broad based HR generalist experience that includes demonstrated success as an effective leader and manager with multi-site responsibilities.  Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree and/or SPHR/PHR certification desired.   Qualified candidates will have:

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR best practices including federal, state and local labor and employment laws.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, influence and persuade divergent and diverse groups/individuals.
  • Strategic, analytical and problem solving skills with good attention to detail and focus on quality, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Solid financial and business acumen with a collaborative work style, strong results orientation, and customer focus.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20-30%.
