This position will be responsible for operating equipment manually and through instrument panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units in an assigned area. Performs field tests (chemical, physical) in order to pace chemical dosages for process. Monitors and observes operating conditions, records observations and data in area shift log, and diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action. Operate filters, air compressors, clarifiers, filter presses, chemical metering devises, tanks valves, instruments and pumps. Follows process control procedures, verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisor. Prepares chemical solutions, and monitors process chemical supplies and recommends reorder. Samples process according to schedule. Performs routine lab tests, and routine instrument calibration meters in the field. Performs minor maintenance including routine preventive maintenance, lubrication, and minor adjustments; and performs basic troubleshooting of equipment, recommends solutions and, where appropriate, fills out work orders. Operates vehicles and light equipment for plant operational use. Assures work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures. Performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks for work area, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds.
Education and Experience
Must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control and asset management. Must have water, wastewater or utility plant operating experience. Requires knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of general plant operation, as acquired through a minimum 2 years of experience. Must have the ability to diagnose process problems in single or multiple unit processes and take remedial action; and to troubleshoot basic equipment. Requires good reading, math, writing, scientific, and verbal communication skills; a mechanical aptitude; and the ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.
